These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the website and newsletter published by The Gist of It (“we,” “us,” or “our”) at thegistofit.co (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
1. The Service
The Gist of It provides short, personalized explainer content delivered by email and through the website, including an on-demand “Gist Engine” that generates explanations in response to questions you submit. Content is generated with the help of AI and summarized from third-party news sources.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you meet this requirement.
3. Newsletter Subscription & Emails
When you subscribe, you agree to receive newsletter emails and related communications from us. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email. We use a third-party provider (Kit) to deliver emails and track opens/clicks as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Gist Engine & AI-Generated Content
The Gist Engine and newsletter summaries use AI to condense and explain information. AI-generated content may occasionally be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate. It is provided for general informational purposes only and is not professional advice — medical, legal, financial, or otherwise. Always verify important information independently and consult a qualified professional before acting on it.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to abuse, overload, or circumvent rate limits on the Gist Engine
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or resell content from the Service without permission
- Submit content that is harmful, abusive, or infringes on others’ rights
- Interfere with the security or normal operation of the Service
6. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, branding, and original written content, is owned by The Gist of It and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Underlying news stories we summarize remain the property of their original publishers; we link to original sources where applicable.
7. Third-Party Links & Advertising
The Service may link to third-party websites and news sources we don’t control, and may display or be funded in part by advertising (e.g., campaigns run on Meta). We aren’t responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of third-party sites.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. We don’t guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Gist of It won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including reliance on AI-generated content.
10. Termination
We may suspend or stop providing the Service, or any part of it, to anyone at any time, including for violation of these Terms.
